Fruit Fly

What do fruit flies look like?

Fruit flies are tiny (about 1/8 inch long) red flies.  They buzz around fruit and other food.

Do fruit flies bite?

No.  However, they do spread potentially harmful diseases by landing on human food.

Where do fruit flies live?

Fruit flies live in and feed on dead and decaying fruit.  They are often found in restaurants and other food facilities and can be transported into homes from fruit.

Though they do not bite people, fruit flies do pass germs and bacteria wherever they go.  Their presence alone indicates unsanitary conditions.

The best way to treat fruit flies in New Jersey is to maintain a strict sanitation routine.  Make sure all counters and surfaces are wiped clean and take out trash each day.
